A young man with big plans. Luis Martin looks forward at Testbed Vegas

Raised in Las Vegas, Luis Martin joins the panel for Vegas Travel & Hospitality Tech on the 27th of August at Desert Winds Coffee Roasters.

Luis is a young man who has set his sights high in wanting improve the lives of Las Vegas citizens. He grew up in North Las Vegas as a member of a large family. At the age of eight, his father was deported and consequently Luis began his first job as a manual laborer to help support his family. A role which he continued for his family through to high school.

Luis recently graduated from Western High School in Las Vegas and now preparing for tertiary education. He will commence his studies for an Associates Degree in Business Management at the College of Southern Nevada later this month.

Luis is candid about personal challenges with depression and anxiety when he was younger. Through his own volition he set himself to make a change for the better during his later schooling years, committing to the education objectives of JAG Nevada. He also took on leadership responsibilities as the school Secretary of the JAG program at Western High School. In this role he administered the tracking of performance for students in the program, led fund raising and facilitated information sharing for the program.

Through his energies he was recognized in a number of capacities, awarded the JAG Leadership Award in 2019. He also participated in the 2019 DyLead Youth Leadership Program 2019 by the Asian Community Development Council and received the 2019 Noche Libre Summer NBA League award.

Beyond his studies Luis’ master plan is focused on improving the community and addressing poverty in North Las Vegas. He plans to support these objective by establishing his own companies that will fund an organisation to teach work skills to North Las Vegas residents.

Following his studies Luis is looking forward to working in the hospitality industry with Las Vegas industry operators and has a longer term plan to own his own hotel with a service focus, that will also be a cornerstone of his community intentions in North Las Vegas.

Luis has shown an astonishing level of drive from a young age where he should have been enjoying childhood. We are particularly looking forward to sharing his journey and most importantly, his future aspirations with the Testbed Vegas community.
